Suren Das College is one of the premier institutions of higher education of greater Hajo area. The place Hajo, situated thirty two kms away from Guwahati on the north bank of the mighty river Brahmaputra, is one of the most famous places in the country. It is the meeting place of three religions, viz Hindu, Islam and Buddhism. Hajo was under the rule of different royal dynasties from the early period of History to the late medieval period. It was an important seat of rule of three powerful royal camps of Medieval Assam---The Ahom, Koch and the Mughal. The religious and political importance of Hajo made it the meeting place of people of various, and even conflicting, faiths together to build up a magnificent socio-cultural heritage in the area.

    Suren Das College is situated at a distance of 30 minutes car drive from Gauhati University was established in 1979. It has got a beautiful scenic view being surrounded by the river Lokhaitara(local name of river Puthimari), Dhoparguri Sattra(a religious cum cultural centre established by great vaisnavite Saint Madhavadeva) and the roadway connecting Barpeta and Nalbari from the capital city Guwahati.
